Career development is a process that enables individuals to achieve professional goals through self-assessment and exploration. evaluating personal career values, interests, skills and actively seeking out opportunities in fields of interest through networking, mentorship and obtning relevant professional experiences to enhance competencies.

Rackham Resources

The Rackham Graduate School offers various annual programs med at career development:

  1. Rackham Embedded Coordinator for Graduate Student Career Advancement

    Drs. Kirsten Elling and Tim Cavnar provide comprehensive career coaching, advice, and programming to doctoral students to address challenges and foster successful professional paths. They offer appointments via the university's Career Center website.

  2. Gear Your Career

    This annual January event is open to master’s and doctoral students who can receive professional headshots, business cards or advice on refining their LinkedIn profile.

  3. Ph.D. Connections

    An annual multidisciplinary career conference for doctoral students and postdocs looking beyond academia into various non-academic career paths. Attees gn insights from Ph.D.s working in diverse fields through interactive sessions.

  4. Rackham Workshops

    The Rackham School regularly hosts workshops on professional development topics like future faculty preparation, alumni career conversations, among others.
